Even though it’s not very famous, the temple is located in the beautiful area of Manila. People who have visited this serene and lovely place often wish to come back every year.
The main entrance of the Manila Devi Temple displays an image of Hanuman ji, signifying the temple as Adi Shaktipeeth Manila. Despite its ancient origins, the notable golden gate was constructed in 2014 by the family of the late Shri Pratap Singh Jeena Ji as a memorial.
Visitors participate in the tradition of chanting ‘Jai Maa Manila Devi,’ tying sacred threads and pieces of cloth on a specific tree, expressing their hopes for wish fulfillment. There is another temple known as Malla Manila Temple, and it has an interesting story. Several years ago, a thief tried to steal the idol of Mata Manila Devi but failed. However, he was able to take only a hand of the Goddess. Unfortunately, he couldn’t carry it any further and left it at a specific location. This led to the establishment of the Malla Manila Temple.

If you are traveling from the capital city of India, Delhi, it is advisable to opt for a train or bus to reach Ramnagar. Upon arrival in Ramnagar, you can then take a local bus to reach Manila.

On our recent trip to Jim Corbett National Park, we took a slight detour that turned out to be one of the most soulful and unforgettable experiences of the journey a visit to the Manila Devi Temple.
Located in the Sult area of Almora district, this serene temple is nestled deep in the Kumaon hills, around 2.5 to 3 hours’ drive from Ramnagar. The journey is scenic, winding through dense deodar forests, tiny mountain hamlets, and narrow roads that open up to stunning Himalayan views. Trust me the drive itself feels like therapy.
A Place of Spiritual Power and Natural Beauty
The moment we reached, we were welcomed by an air of absolute calm and positive energy. The temple compound is immaculately clean and peaceful, surrounded by thick forests, and perched in such a way that the Himalayan range including Trishul, Nanda Devi, and Panchachuli peaks feels just a fingertip away. If you’re lucky enough to catch a sunrise or sunset here, you’ll witness the mountains turning golden and crimson a sight that’s almost divine.
The temple is deeply revered by locals from nearby regions like Ramnagar, Marchula, and surrounding villages. Though not flooded with tourists, it holds immense spiritual energy. The Pujari ji was kind and welcoming, and the aarti left us with goosebumps. There’s also a meditation centre inside the temple complex for those seeking inner peace.
The Sacred Tree and Wishes
One unique feature that stood out was a rare tree species in the temple premises, believed to be the only one of its kind. Devotees tie threads around its trunk to make wishes. Whether you’re spiritual or not, it’s a deeply touching tradition to witness.
More Than Just a Temple Visit
What makes this place truly special is that it’s not just a temple it’s a full experience. There’s an eco-park nearby for kids, and several viewpoints where you can simply sit and breathe in the clean mountain air. During winters, 2–3 feet of snow transforms the area into a white wonderland, making it one of the closest snow destinations from Delhi (just 365 km away). There are small hotels and homestays around 2-3 km from the temple if you want to stay overnight and take in more of its tranquility.
The local people are incredibly warm and friendly, offering directions and conversations that make the trip even more memorable. Don’t expect luxury facilities here but what you will find is raw natural beauty, peace, and a deep connection with nature and self.
